A Year in Review for 2021
Wow! I genuinely cannot believe that it’s already the first Monday of December, which means, JLE readers, that this will be my last blog of 2021. I’ve honestly spent the last few weeks trying to figure out what topic would be the best for the last blog post of the year, and although anyone who write a blog tries to write it based on page views, I didn’t want to go that route. Instead, JLE readers, I’m going a different direction.
Today, for the first time ever, I’m going to write a blog based on what I learned in 2021, a Year in Review if you will, and what a perfect year to write it in. The first 6 months of 2021 was a right-off since Covid was still dictating government restrictions, but once Stage 3 opened in Ontario, and weddings were allowed again, our couples took no time at all and started booking their weddings. Even with fewer guests, couples went out with a BANG and took advantage before restrictions stopped them from getting married.
And boy did we se couples take advantage! Couples went from traditional to contemporary, from antipasto bars to moving sparklers. Not a single wedding was the same as the last, and every wedding kept us on our toes! We met some amazing vendors, learned amazing things, and connect with old friends through all this craziness!
One of the most important pieces of information that I learned in 2021 came from a wedding with a new vendor. For any of my past or current clients, they know that I try everything in my power to make sure that not only is the client happy, but the vendor is happy with their final product. After all, if the vendor isn’t happy, the client definitely won’t be happy, but at this particular wedding, I could not make the videographer happy no matter what I did. The videographer kept blaming us, the MC and even the guests for not standing under the correct spotlights for their speeches, and he wasn’t willing to move around to get the perfect shot. I simply learned that you cannot fix everything, no matter how hard you try, but, luckily, the couple was still happy with the end result, nonetheless.
We spent what little time we had between weddings continuing our education into being amazing officiants for our couples, and got our Wedding & Event Designer designation through WPIC, which added to our Event & Wedding Planner designation and our Destination Event & Wedding Planner designation, plus our officiant license. We had a couple who wanted us to complete a Ring Blessing Ceremony when we officiated their wedding, so we learned about cleansing objects through burning sage and learning more about essential oils. We even completed our first Friendship Ceremony where two best friends wanted to exchange vows and pieces of jewelry and commit to each other in front of all their family and friends.
All in all, 2021 was an exceptional year, and we cannot wait to see what 2022 brings for Jessica Lisi Events! We hope you can join us on this amazing ride through our blogs, or social media, or as one of our clients. Have a great holiday season, JLE readers! We will see you in 2022!
