Behind the Scenes of a Wedding
Good morning my lovely JLE readers! Wow, did we have a wedding for the century on Saturday! Our beautiful couple, Christian & Melissa, had their dream wedding and we were lucky enough to be hired as their coordinator, and, let me tell you, it was magical! So, we wanted to give you a little behind the scenes look at this wedding and, although we cannot add any photos because we want to give you the best quality (and an iPhone picture just won’t cut it), we will describe what happened in as much detail as possible.
So, lets start with the morning. The bride is getting ready at her house, the groom at his, but doesn’t the power go out at the groom’s house while he’s getting ready and taking pictures with his family and groomsmen? Well, first things first, we called the electrical company and found out that there was a damaged breaker in the area, so the power was going to be out for the next few hours. Luckily it was a beautiful day, so we were able to do their photos outside.
But what about the church? The couple was set to have their ceremony at St. David’s Parish, which was only a couple of minutes away from the groom, and it was Saturday, so no one was in the office to answer phone calls. So, I left the groom in the capable hands of his photographer and videographer and went straight to the ceremony location. Luckily, they were saved of power.
The guests have begun to arrive, and we’re checking everyone’s temperature, plus signing everyone in as per covid regulations. The groom is greeting his guests with his groomsmen, and the bride is sitting comfortably in her limo with her bridal party waiting for the ceremony to begin. The ceremony is a great success, so as the bridal party and my assistant go to do their group photo session, I go to the reception venue to begin set up.
Okay, so everything at the venue is being set up beautifully by the always amazing Alexandria of OMG Events. As I’m going around, making sure the tables are where they need to be, the cutlery and glassware is sparkling, and the tables have the right amount of guests, I begin setting up the items the couple wanted set up, including party favours, their personalized table numbers, their receiving table items, etc., but in the midst of it all, the projector at the hall breaks down as the DJ/MC is testing his equipment. Okay, no one panic, we still have an hour before the guests and bridal party will be arriving, so we send an assistant to go to Home Depot and purchase the items needed to fix the projector.
As that’s happening, and guests are starting to arrive, the pianist, who was supposed to arrive fifteen minutes ago (and was ignoring our phone calls) still hasn’t arrived. The bridal party is now here, everything is set up, but the pianist has still not arrived, and is officially 45 minutes late, and yes, still ignoring the constant ringing of his phone. Now, 30 minutes into his hour set, the pianist has finally arrived. After some discussion and negotiating, I was able to convince him that his unprofessionalism shouldn’t be paid for, and the bride and groom got 30 minutes of playing for free. Unprofessionalism isn’t tolerated on a day-to-day basis and shouldn’t be tolerated on a couple’s wedding day. The bride was understandably upset but was thankful she wasn’t out $1,000 for the pianist’s mistake.
We could keep writing to tell you everything else that went down at our wedding, but remember, it’s not your job to worry about the details that happen, it’s ours, that’s why you hire us! Plus, we’re still offering free initial consultations for all of our new clients, so take advantage of that and meet with us to see how a wedding planner from JLE is the best insurance you could have for your wedding day!
