Why I Became a Wedding Planner
Good morning my lovely JLE readers. It felt weird not writing a blog for the month of October, but it has been crazy busy, and we couldn’t have asked for anything better!
Based on our love of the crazy post-covid, 2021 wedding season, we wanted to dedicate today’s blog to not only us, but also you! You see, one of the most common questions were asked by fellow planners or wedding vendors is why we got into this crazy industry. You see, the hours aren’t Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, our minds are constantly working regarding what we need to do later, tomorrow, next week, and we live in a world where we don’t expect anything less than amazing. So why do we do it? Today’s blog is all about “Why I Became a Wedding Planner.”
I was a teenager who loved to read and write, and although I wasn’t a novelist or a journalist, I still loved writing, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I decided to take a year of taking various courses: photography, media, public speaking, and writing. It was in one of my writing classes where the teacher recommended Public Relations, so I changed my general courses to a more dedicated course load.
Problem is, I hated it! I loved the writing, loved the organization of the world, but it seemed too monotonous for me. I loved the marketing aspect of it, but I didn’t see a future in it for me; but then it happened: a class required us to plan an art show for a local college. It was right then and there that I fell in love! It was the perfect balance of organization and crazy hecticness!
So, I kept the Ying/Yang of event planning in my veins, volunteering at any and every event that I could possibly attend until I felt comfortable enough where I could work for another company. I started working for corporate events, whether it be for NXNE, LinkedIn, or Revlon, loving every second, excited to go to work seven days a week if needed.
After a couple of years, I started feeling my perfect balance was starting to become uneven and I didn’t enjoy going to work anymore. That was in 2012. In 2013, I opened my very own Event & Wedding Planning company, specializing in weddings but working other events, like fundraisers, tournaments, and corporate events. I celebrated eight years of crazy bliss on November 1st, 2021, and I never want to turn back!
