Vendor Spotlight - Magen Boys

If you haven’t heard of Magen Boys yet, it’s a good thing you’re reading this blog. Magen Boys is one of the premiere event and entertainment companies in the GTA, doing everything that involves entertaining the crowd! We sat down with Andrés, one of the specialists at Magen Boys who we’ve worked with multiple times at multiple venues! Enjoy!

Lets start with the easy one: Who are you?

My name is Andrés Puche, originally from Venezuela and now living in Toronto. I’m a musician, audio engineer, electrical engineer and event specialist whose life has changed after going down the rabbit hole of the event industry. When working I also like to present myself as your best friend when it comes to achieving a vision for an event. That’s my main goal.

What do you do (other than being awesome of course)?

You’re too kind! I divide my time between the event industry working for Magen Boys Entertainment, handling big and small weddings, corporate and charity events as well as performing and producing music, keeping up with new technologies and recently general life appreciation and well-being, although my main thing is family and friends. Live and breath for them.

So, why weddings?

I got married almost three years ago. Once I realized the amount of work that my wife did to make that happen without hiring a planner, without hiring a decor company, I just decided: "ok, now that I learned how complicated this and that I started to work for MBE full time, I would love to assist other couples with this craziness that is planning a wedding." I was assigned with creating an in house AV department in the company which I directed for two years, leaving it working in full and now being assigned to our top clients in the wedding industry of Toronto and the GTA. My strong technical background was definitely a plus, and since I love talking to people, I think it all just clicked once I started handling the big weddings, the odd super cool small ones and the standard ones too. All are great to learn from.

What is your favourite part of the wedding day or planning process?

Coordination. I love handling the logistics of an important day and to be honest I have a very tight schedule during the wedding season so my team knows how strict we need to be with each wedding’s timeline. Also, it brings out the best in me because I make sure that my team members are happy, fed and hydrated, so that we, as a team, are giving our 100% to do the job in time and with excellence.

What question do you wish all couples would ask you?

I think the main question I wish to get is: Is my vision achievable with the budget? It is easy to get carried away with some awesome things we see on big weddings but the costs of a lot of cool things can be pretty steep. If I can make it for less, I will make it happen because at the end, the closest we get to the couple’s vision, the more we learn and the busier we get.

What question do you wish couples would stop asking you?

When bluntly I get asked: “How come this costs so much money?” The amount of times I get asked this when clients require a massive structure or a complicated or tight turnaround is just too high and I wish I could work miracles. I mean I try my best, but the bigger the dream the bigger the bill, unfortunately. Here at MBE we have very competitive pricing that can be compared openly on the internet. I have packages for every type of wedding, and we keep it as low as possible for couples that have tight budgets and we put in as much love and dedication regardless of the wedding size/type.

What’s the one wedding trend you currently love?

Self-serve refreshments. I think it keeps the server traffic to a minimum so it just feels like the party flows better at all times.

What’s the one wedding trend you could do without?

Sweetheart table on stage. Sorry to the couples that love that, but I feel that it creates a distance from the guests.

What’s the one piece of advice you give all your couples?

Always research and look for the options that will make the big night feel right. If something falls out of budget, do your homework and research to find alternatives. You’d be surprised of the amazing things that people come up with and upload in Pinterest, for example. I would also suggest to consider mood lighting options as they create the right aura for a modern, classic or wild/bold wedding look. It just depends on how the AV team sets them up.

Thank you so much to Andres from Magen Boys Entertainment to sit down and chat with us about what he does and how he helps all of our couples! Don’t forget to connect with us here for more information on all of our amazing vendors.
