What Does a Wedding Planner Really Do?

We have amazing clients, but occasionally, at the initial consultation, a couple will bring a friend or family member who doubts the worth of a wedding planner. “If something happens, I can take care of it.” “Really, what’s the worst that can happen?” “Why spend the money when you can have your friend so-and-so do it all for you?” We love answering these questions because it not only shows our couples and the nay-sayers that we know what we are doing, but that we love doing it!

So, what do wedding planners really do? 

Well, for starters we have the network of amazing vendors to fit every style, personality and budget. Just because you have found a vendor in a magazine does not necessarily mean that they are amazing at their job, but we have worked with these vendors time and time again and have seen their level of expertise! Plus, when you are certified by the Weddings Planners Institute of Canada like JLE is, you are not allowed to take or give any kickbacks. This means that we are obligated to recommend vendors to you based on their merit and nothing else.

Secondly, when you hire a planner from JLE for month-of coordination, we are your vendor go-to for the entire month before your wedding. This means that you get to relax for the last month and the only thing you need to do is pay any vendors that are still owed, and give your DJ/band your final song list. Every time a vendor has a question, needs logistics, or needs to go over some stuff, they contact us so you can relax and enjoy counting down the days before finally marrying the person you love!

Then there is the ceremony. No matter where you are getting married, having your wedding planner there ensures that everything goes smoothly. We set up and take down any décor you may bring in, we line up your bridal party and ensure they walk down at the correct pace so your photographer/videographer catches each person. Plus, we make sure that no one sees the couple until they absolutely have to, especially if one half of the couple doesn’t want to see the other half until the moment they are walking down the aisle.

Now, it’s the day of your wedding, so what could there possibly be for us to do? Well, the planners at JLE have a roaster of vendors who are available on your wedding day in case the vendors you hired don’t show up or showed up late. We’ve had couples who’s hair and makeup people didn’t show up and were no where to be found; we’ve had couples who’s officiants got into a fender bender on the way to the ceremony and weren’t going to make it; we’ve had couples who’s limo company had a limo show up dirty and filled with fruit flies! By us having this roaster, we ensured that our couple had a backup so there wedding wasn’t derailed or ruined.

We also set up any items that you may want displayed, whether it be party favours, photos of you and/or your families, or candles. We make sure that all vendors are where they are supposed to be, and when. For example, your Best Man is about to do his speech. Well, we make sure your DJ/band, photographer/videographer, best man, our newly married couple, and the Captain of the venue is ready for the speech so no one misses this important moment.
